Why Dhanteras is such a special day for me and for CaratLane
Dhanteras is the most special day of the year for CaratLane. One reason is that it’s the day we do our highest sales in the year and that too by a significant margin.
But there’s a second reason which is equally special for me.
It’s the day, we see the true spirit of this company and the power of the collective. It’s the day, everyone forgets about everything and focuses on only one goal. To drive more sales. Everyone is either selling in the store or supporting the ones who are selling.
It doesn’t matter what department you belong to or where you sit in the organisation hierarchy. Everyone is doing the same job as equals. People forget the disagreements that they have on the other 364 days and support each other wholeheartedly.
It’s the day on which everyone is at their customer centric best. Trying to do whatever it takes for the customer. As a result the collective customer centricity reaches a new peak.
As the organisation grows, alignment on goals becomes the biggest challenge. To get everyone to pull in the same direction. To get everyone to work together so that the whole is bigger than the sum of the parts.
Achieving this perfection is very hard. It never happens. A lot of opportunities are lost as a result. A lot of energy goes into aligning people. There is a lot of heartburn with people pulling in different directions.
Every leader dreams of achieving this perfection. In CaratLane, there is one day, when we achieve this perfection. And you realise what we can do when we all pull together in the same direction. When the only thing we care about is making customers happy. Its the day when 4000 + people operate in perfect harmony with each other creating a magnum opus of collective excellence. The day the spirit of CaratLane reaches its pinnacle.
And that is why it’s my favourite day of the year. If I could have one wish, it would be to harness this spirit for the remaining 362 days of the year. ( We do the same on Akshay Trithiya and Valentines Day )
Happy Diwali everyone 🙏🙏
