I am super bullish on India, if I think as a consumer
I am super bullish on India.
The next decade will be India’s decade.
These statements are very common these days. Everyone from academics, politicians, investors, business people etc is forecasting a great future fir India and sharing a lot of data points to back it up.
So I am not saying anything different. But I am saying this as a CONSUMER. Not as a business person or investor.
My reason is very simple.
My consumption of home grown Indian brands has drastically increased in the last few years.
I love material goods and I spend reasonable amounts of money on certain consumer categories. The share of my spends on Indian brands ( and I am talking brands which were born in India in the last ten years ) has gone from less than 10% to more than 60% now.
I am not talking one or two purchases. I am talking a consumer behaviour which will qualify me as a loyal customer. Very high repeat buying and doing a lot of referral and word of mouth.
Not doing this because they are cheaper than their international competitors.Not doing this because of patriotism. I am doing this because I love their quality and their service.
We are no longer a cheap outsourcing destination. We can make great consumer products. We are learning to market them as well. I am hopeful that in the coming decade we will have some global Indian brands.
And that’s the reason for my optimism for India. As an Indian consumer. As a business person I also look forward to helping them in whatever small way I can.

This is just a small sample. There are many others like them. There are others that I have tried and not liked. There are others that I will try in the future.
I am absolutely loving it as an Indian consumer.
