Daily Human – Why all pure blood theories are rubbish
Recently heard a great podcast on the Big Idea Club where the guest was the amazing Yuval Noah Harari. (https://podcasts.apple.com/in/podcast/the-next-big-idea/id1482067226?i=1000590965889)
As expected, Yuval made some great points and was full of wonderful insights. But one point stood out for me. I am paraphrasing it.
We dont realise that we aren’t the only humans. We are one species of humans called the Homo Sapiens. Once upon a time, there were other human species as well. Like the Neanderthals. Today they are extinct.
But there was time when multiple species of humans existed together.
They didn’t get along as a group. In fact, the Homo Sapiens with their superior brain and communication skills were most likely responsible for the extinction of the other species.
But individual members of these different species mingled and mated with each other. How do we know that for sure? DNA evidence. Around 4–5% ( I might be a little off on the exact no. Don’t get anal about that. Get the larger point ) of our genetic DNA material is from other species. That’s hard, conclusive evidence.
Think about it. We are not even PURE Homo Sapiens. Not pure blood. And yet, we are doing perfectly fine. We mated with humans of other species and produced babies who are doing great.
So, does purity of Race, Religion, Sect or Caste even matter. From a physiological or genetic point of view. Can there be any argument that children borne out of inter-racial or any other inter-group association are physiologically or genetically imperfect in any way?
They might have beliefs or ideologies which might not please the groups of their parents. But other than that, all pure blood theories are rubbish.
