An unfulfilled dream – RIP Kobe and Gianna

It started with shock, which then turned into extreme sorrow. For a former sportsman who I never idolised actually. Inspite of being a Laker fan for more than 20 years now.

I admired him for being so driven in life. To win, to be the best and to totally dominate the opposition. The closest thing to Jordan.

But I didn’t love him.

I was a Shaq guy and hated Kobe for being so selfish and forcing the Lakers to get rid of the big guy.

My begrudging admiration grew after Kobe won an oscar and wrote a best-selling book. Here was an all time great athlete who was also an incredibly intelligent human being. It seemed as if nothing could stop him and his untimely death made me wonder about what could have been – his limitless potential will never be realized fully.

But I have never felt so sad about a sportsman’s death.

Not even when Ayrton Senna died so tragically and he remains my favourite driver ever.

Because Kobe and Gianna’s dream died with the crash. I have watched them courtside many times with Kobe passing on his love for the game to his daughter. Being a parent myself, I. could totally relate to him. Sharing your own passion with your child is one of the most beautiful things in the world.

It’s a dream unfulfilled and that is sad.

RIP Kobe and Gianna.
